Nonlinear dynamic seismic analysis of a modern concrete core wall building in Los Angeles using the BTM‐shell methodology

This paper discusses the nonlinear dynamic seismic response of a 14-story reinforced concrete core wall building designed with prescriptive requirements 2019 California Building Code for near-fault site in Los Angeles, California, simulated detailed analysis complete structure and subjected to an ensemble three-component ground motion input. The study follows up on recently published work by authors, which examined specific static lateral loads. model was developed software FE-Multiphys using shell-element implementation beam–truss (BTM). BTM has been extensively validated through prior studies planar, flanged, coupled walls under loading. motions scaled at design risk-targeted maximum considered earthquake levels. vertical component out-of-plane shear degradation piers were included simulations. analyses elucidate profound effect flexure–shear interaction multidirectional behavior flanged evolution localization damage residual deformations. coupling between wall, slabs, columns is also analyzed, importance modeling all slabs evaluation demonstrated. aim this improve understanding issues arising from as well associated limitations standard analysis.
